Dock sitting behind my house on the Chesapeake Bay has become one of my favorite mini-retreats.
Water flowing
Egrets fishing
Bass breaching
In only a minute I am renewed in spirit.

Sometimes, the water is turbulent and muddy, making it difficult to see much below the surface. Other times, the water is so clear you can see the crabs scurrying along the grassy bottom. But my favorite time is when the water surface is "slick cam", as the local watermen say, still and glass-like. It is then that the horizon disappears altogether and water becomes a mirror of open sky. Limitless. Infinite.
In much the same way, when I am still, I am able to reflect with far more clarity. As a result, a new perspective or an expanded outlook may come into view. Is it because God works in us through stillness? When our minds are at rest, do we become more receptive and open to Him? In those moments, does the finite self surrender to infinite God?
For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror, then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. ~ Corinthians 13:12
